Jharkhand Speaker Shashank Sekhar Bhokta today gave Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) MLA Phoolchand Mandal time till August 8 to reply to the notice served on him under the defection law.
The Speaker, who had on August 4 served the notice on Mandal after the latter's party moved the Chair to disqualify him as he resigned from JVM and joined the BJP, initially gave him time till today to reply.
Bhokta extended the deadline by another day after Mandal sought time to reply.
The Speaker had on August 2 served notices for to four other JVM MLAs - Nirbhay Kumar Sahabadi (Giridih), Jai Prakash Singh Bhokta (Semeria), Chandrika Mahata (Jamua) and Samresh Singh (Bokaro), against whom the JVM demanded disqualification under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution after they announced to join the BJP.
The four MLAs have to furnish their replies by tomorrow.
