Flaying Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for his plans to conduct his yagam "with public money and use it as a weapon for elections," state BJP Friday demanded that he not misuse the official machinery.

BJP was not against such religious practices, but the chief minister should hold it with his own funds, state BJP spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao said in a statement.

He alleged that the yagam was proposed to be held even as Rao's party TRS ally was AIMIM, which "abuses Hindus."

The BJP spokesperson alleged that Rao planned to perform the yagam with an eye on the coming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

Religious traditions and practices, which are personal, were beingsought to be used as a weapon for elections, the BJP leader alleged.

the Chief Minister had decided on July 30 to perform 'Maha Sudarshana Yagam' at the temple town of Yadadri.

Leaders from the Centre, Chief Ministers of all states, besides religious heads from Badrinath, Tirupati and Srirangam would be invited for the event, an official release had said.

The BJP spokesperson took exception to state Congress working president Ponnam Prabhakars comments that there is an understanding between BJP and ruling TRS and alleged that Prabhakar, a former MP from Karimnagar, had not shown the courage to condemn Akbaruddin Owaisis alleged hate speech in the town.
