Kin of Justice Ganjoo among 3 martyrs honoured in Jammu

Kin of martyrs - Justice Nilakant Ganjoo, former director Doordarshan Lassa Koul and former principal Ashok Kumar Raina - were honoured at a function here, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, today.

Former 15 Corps commander Lt Gen Ata Husnain, Bollywood actress Press Sapru, BJP Legislators Surinder Ambardar and Ramesh Arora, state BJP vice president Yudhvir Sethi, state ministers Chander Prakash Ganga and Priya Sethi, honoured and paid tributes to the three martyrs and awarded their kin - Shadi Lal, Prof Kulbushan Razdan and Vikas Raina (son of Raina) respectively.

Harmukh Ganga (Gangbal) Trust (HGGT) in association with All Parties Migrants Co-ordination Committee (APMCC) organised the 4th Annual Gangbal Awards and APMCC-A Retrospective & Way Forward here today in which martyrs and prominent personalities of Kashmiri Pandit community and organisations were awarded in recognition of their contribution to the community, society and nation.
 

A proposed 'Temple Bill Draft' was also released and soil from the revered ancient Shardha Temple in Pok was displayed.

Justice Ganjoo was allegedly assassinated by militants in 1989 after he awarded death sentence to JKLF founder Maqbool Bhat for committing murder of a police inspector.

Lassa Koul was director of doordarshan in Kashmir when militants allegedly killed him in 1990.

Ashok Kumar Raina was principal of Gool Higher Secondary school when he along with his two lecturers were allegedly assassinated by militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in 1997 for brining educational setup back on rails in Ramban district.

The awards were given away to KP martyrs posthumously as well as personally in recognition of their tremendous contribution towards upliftment of Kashmiri Pandit community and their contribution to the nation as a whole, King Bharati, National Spokesperson APMCC and vice president HGGT said in a statement issued here today.

The other young awardees included Somnider Koul (ANI), Sameer Bhat (ETV), officers in state services - Punika Pandita, Kosheen Koul, Sumit Hakhoo (Tribune), Anil Raina (Mumbai Mirror), Jitender Kaw (KMCET), Ramesh Hangloo, CEO Shardha Radio, Romesh Pandita, KP Sabha (Chandigarh), Ajay Zadoo (Zee Salam) and Rajinder Kitchloo (Take 1 TV).
