A 41-year-old man suspected to be heading a notorious gang involved in inter-state dacoity was today arrested in connection with a heist at a gold ornament making unit at Petlaburzhere, police said.
Amjad Khwaja Ameen Shaik, a native of Mumbai was arrested and Rs 6 lakh worth gold and other valuables robbed from the unit recovered from him, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar told reporters here.
On March 6, a gang of 10-members wearing masks robbed 3.5 kg gold and other valuables at knife-point at the unit in broad day light, he said.
"The gang members had conducted recce of the unit well before committing the offence," the commissioner said adding the gang members were previously involved in several cases of dacoity, robbery and extortions in different parts of Maharashtra also.
Special teams have been formed to nab the remaining members of the gang andrecover the looted booty from them, Kumar added.
