Lalmatia coal mine mishap toll rises to 11

The death toll in the Lalmatia coal mine mishap rose to 11 today with a senior ECL official saying the dense fog in the area is affecting the rescue operations.

"The toll has increased to 11," officiating CMD of ECL R R Mishra said.

An unspecified number of miners are still feared trapped after a massive mound of earth came crashing down on them at Lalmatia open cast coal mine of Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL) last night, the worst such disaster in over a decade.
