Landmine recovered ahead of 2-day Maoist bandh in Jharkhand

Ahead of the two-day Jharkhand bandh called by CPI (Maoists) from midnight today in protest against the killing of its cadres by rival a group last year in Chatra, the security personnel recovered a power landmine from Maheshduba village under Ghatsila sub-division of East Singhbhum district, a senior police officer said.

Acting on a tip-off, security personnel comprising of District Armed Police (DAP) and CRPF during a long-range patrol in the naxal-hit areas launched a massive search in Maheshduba and recovered a landmine weighing about 10 kg, said Superintendent of Police (Rural), Shailendra Kumar Sinha.

Sinha said the landmine was planted under a culvert, which was recovered and defused by the bomb disposal squad.
 

He said a massive anti-naxal operation has been going on in the sub-division in view of the ensuing elections.

Asked about the two-day bandh called by the ultra outfit, the officer said the district administration has been geared up to meet any eventuality.
