CPI(M) today said the Left Front was exploring alternatives to Congress and BJP for the coming Lok Sabha elections.

"The Left Front is exploring a secular alternative to both Congress and BJP for the forthcoming general elections," CPI-M MP Sitaram Yechury told reporters here.

He said the Left Front is looking towards alliance partners like Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, Deve Gowda's Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka, Nitish Kumar's JD-U in Bihar, Biju Janata Dal in Odisha, AIADMK in Tamil Nadu and other like-minded parties.

He said CPI-M was against the policies of BJP and would oppose its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Yechury also ridiculed BJP's idea to abolish income tax and to substitute it with a transaction tax.

Elaborating his point, Yechury said nowhere in the world has income tax ever been abolished and if it is waived for the middle class, it would also have to be waived for the rich.

At a time even capitalist countries like France and United States have imposed taxes on the super rich, how could BJP propose to get rid of it.

On emergence of AAP in New Delhi, Yechury said the outfit is yet to make its stand clear on several issues like terror.

About AAP's demand that Delhi government should have control over Delhi Police, he said there was nothing new in it, since whoever is in power make such demands, but oppose it after losing out.
