A 38-day-old female leopard cub died at the Tata Steel Zoological Society (TSZS) here today, six days after being disowned by its mother.
The cub, which was born on April 4 from Basanti and Ved, died at 4 PM, said Rajnish Kumar, a member of the TSZS Managing Committee.
The cub was disowned by its mother on May 6 but the reason was not clear.

Since then, the zoo staff were trying to feed her manually and were trying to save the cub but failed, Kumar said.
"Survival rate of cubs disowned by mother is only two per cent in the country," he said.
The carcass would be preserved and and kept for display at Nature Education Center in the zoo.
Other two leopard cubs born recently from Shiva (female) and Mithun (male) were under their mother's care and were being closely watched by the staff, Kumar said.
