Light rains likely in Delhi on I-Day

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rains across the national capital on Thursday.

The rainfall recorded so far in the month of August is 59 per cent less than normal. The seasonal average rainfall is 35 per cent less than normal, the MeT department said.

"There is a possibility of light to moderate rains across the national capital on August 15," Kuldeep Srivastava, the regional weather forecasting head of the IMD, said.

The sky will be cloudy in the morning with a possibility of a light drizzle. The afternoon could also witness light rains, Srivastava said.

The department has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rains over the weekend.

 

It was a sultry day in Delhi on Wednesday with rains in parts of the national capital in the afternoon.

"The maximum temperature settled at 34.4 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, while the minimum was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal," the official said, adding that the humidity levels oscillated between 97 and 67 per cent.

The Safdarjung observatory recorded 4.8 mm of rainfall while the Palam observatory recorded 29.4 mm of rainfall, he added.

The maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 33 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively on Thursday.
