Liquor shop on TN-Kerala border becoming inter-state issue

Tribal women of Attapadi in neighbouring Kerala are up in arms against a Tamil Nadu Government run liquor shop in Anaikatty here, 500 metres from the inter-state border seeking its immediate closure.

The women have been agitating for the past two months and squatting on the road taking turns and saying their spouses spent their hard earned money on liquor by crossing the border, police said.

They want the immediate closure of the TASMAC shop.

In view of the agitation, strict vigil has been kept, with police from both states being deployed on either side to defuse the situation.
