Police seized Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 2.84 crore from Chitrol village of Nandod taluka in the district today and arrested four persons though a notorious bootlegger managed to slip away.

"Four persons have been arrested in connection with seizure of IMFL worth Rs 2.84 crore from Chitrol village," Superintendent of Police P L Mal told PTI.

Surat police had alerted Valsad authorities that Babu Marwada, a wanted bootlegger, was hiding at Chitrol, 8 km from Rajpipla town, Mal said.

A team led by Valsad ASP Mahendra Bagadia and inspector M I Dabhi raided the village, but Marwada escaped, he said.

The police discovered an underground storage place under a farmland where 5,266 boxes containing 1,17,736 bottles of various IMFL brands worth Rs 2.84 crore were stacked, he said.

Police also recovered 12 vehicles.

Liquor is banned in Gujarat.
