A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has awarded nearly Rs 25 lakh to the kin of a man who was killed in a road mishap involving a negligently driven DTC bus in 2013.
MACT Judge Barkha Gupta directed United India Insurance Company, insurer of the offending vehicle, to pay Rs 24,64,048 to the wife, son and three minor daughters of victim Ram Kewal (57), a resident of Sultanpuri in north west Delhi.
While deciding the petition in the favour of the victim's family, the tribunal relied on post mortem report, the detailed accident report and other documents on record.

According to the petition filed by victim's wife Badami, Kewal was killed in a mishap on January 14, 2013 when he was trying to alight the bus.
It was alleged that the bus started moving forward unexpectedly due to which Kewal lost balance and fell down.
The conductor of the bus and the onlookers took him to hospital but he succumbed to injuries later.
The tribunal, while awarding the compensation, considered the fact that due to the death of her husband in the mishap, his wife has to take care of three minor daughters.
The driver of the bus, DTC and the insurance company failed to challenge any of the allegations put forth in the MACT proceedings.
