Bharati Tamang, widow of slain All India Gorkha League (AIGL) leader Madan Tamang, will start a fast unto death from tomorrow demanding the CBI immediately arrest 23 Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leaders against whom a Kolkata court has issued warrants in connection with her husband's murder.

AIGL General Secretary Pratap Khati today said Bharati Tamang, who had earlier threatened to launch the fast if the accused were not arrested, has decided to begin her hunger strike at Chowrasta in Darjeeling town from tomorrow.

On a prayer by CBI which is investigating the case, the court on June 6 issued the warrants against GJM president Bimal Gurung, his wife Asha, party MLA Harka Bahadur Chettri and 20 others in connection with Madan Tamang's murder on May 21, 2010.

The court directed the investigating agency to file a report on execution of the order on June 26.

"We had written to the CBI director demanding that the accused be arrested as soon as possible. We had given the CBI 24 hours time after they receive our letter that we posted on June 11. However, CBI has not executed the court order so far. Therefore, we are compelled to begin fast unto death," Khati quoted Bharati Tamang as saying.

Madan Tamang had been hacked to death in Darjeeling town when he was overseeing preparations for a public meeting.
