Madurai Bar Association members today threatened to launch an agitation if the recognition granted to Tamilnadu Adovocates Association (TAA) was not revoked by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry within a week.

The MBA would launch a series of agitation starting with a boycott of the high court on March 13, association Secretary J Ramamoorthy told reporters here.

He said the recognition to the TAA would make it emerge as a parallel organisation to the Bar Council of TN, causing hurdles to the functioning of a genuine organisation, and judiciary.

Those from the Bar Council of TN, who signed for recognition of TAA should resign from the council and join the TAA, he demanded.

He said as per rules, those who had completed law degree within 35 years of age alone were allowed to practise in court. Most of the Members of the TAA got their law degrees in private institutes, and many of them studied at old age.

Meanwhile, lawyers today began an indefenite boycott of the district court demanding cancellation of the recognition given for TAA, officials said.
