The Maharashtra government today signed an agreement to extend the "nutrition gardens" programme in eight more districts for effective tackling of malnutrition among children.
Fresh fruits and vegetables were provided to over one lakh children through 7300 such gardens set up on the premises of anganwadis during the first phase of the programme launched in 2015.
The first phase had covered Pune, Thane, Palghar, Yavatmal, Jalgaon, Parbhani, Osmanabad and Wardha districts.
The state government today signed a tripartite agreement with Reliance Foundation and Rajmata Jijau Mother-Child Health Nutrition Mission for the purpose in the presence of Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde and Reliance Foundation CEO Jagannatha Kumar.
A similar Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in 2015.

The latest MoU would cover eight more districts namely Beed, Jalna, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Gondia, Solapur, Nandurbar and Chandrapur.
"The encouraging results of the first phase has motivated the state government to expand the programme in eight new districts with Reliance Foundation as our knowledge partner. We want to ensure that every child in anganwadis gets access to fresh fruits and vegetables across the state," Munde said on the occasion.
More than 1000 master trainers will be appointed in these 16 districts for supporting the development of 25,000 "nutrition gardens" in the anganwadi premises, she said.
