Maharashtra government today announced that it has ordered a stay on construction of the AVH Chemicals plant in Kolhapur district until a review meeting on the project, scheduled next month, takes place.
A meeting of people's representatives and local population with the environmental impact valuation authority is scheduled on August 19 and 20, Maharashtra Environment Minister Sanjay Deotale informed the state Assembly.
He was replying to a calling attention notice by Sandhyadevi Kupekar (NCP) and others.
The legislators wanted to know as to what action the government had planned against AVH Chemicals, blaming the factory for pollution in the area.
