Maharashtra today recommended modification in the 'No Detention Policy' saying it should only be practised till Class IV.
Speaking at a Central Education Advisory Council's sub-committee meeting of State Education Ministers, Vinod Tawde, Maharashtra's Minister for School Education, said that the 'No Detention Policy' should not be extended beyond Standard IV.
However, from Standard V to VIII, there should be regular exams. If the students fail in that exam then they should be given a chance to sit for re-examination within a month. If they fail to pass in the re-examination then they should be detained in that particular class.
Tawde also emphasised on special training for teachers to deal with the current 'No Detention Policy'.
Many states like Delhi and Rajasthan have opposed the No Dentition Policy, a decision taken to reduce pressure and students and avoid dropouts from school.
