A 40-year-old woman was found dead at her farm in Saiwan village near Virar in Palghar district of Maharashtra, police said Wednesday.
According to police, Anita Madke had gone to the farm for spraying fertilisers on crops on July 15 morning, but as she did not return home till late evening, her family members went looking for her.
A police officer said that Madke was found lying in a pool of blood with her body bearing at least five stab injuries to the face and head.
A case has been registered under section 302 (Punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal COde (IPC) at Virar police station against unidentified persons and further investigation is underway, he said.
