Maharashtra: Four of a family killed in road mishap

Four persons of a family were today killed and another injured, after a tanker rammed into their motorcycle at Dahegaon in the district, police said.

The mishap occurred this afternoon on the Manmad-Malegaon road, an official of Chandvad police station said.

All five members of the Chitalkar family were travelling on a motorcycle to Boygaon when the accident took place. While three persons were killed on the spot, another one died in the hospital, the official said, adding the tanker's driver was apprehended.

The deceased have been identified as Santosh Chitalkar, Asha Chitalkar, Savita Chitalkar and Bhooshan Chitalkar, he said.

Kin of the deceased alleged that the driver deliberately rammed the tanker into their motorcycle, as their was some old rivalry between him and the family, another police official said.

A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered, he said, adding a probe was on.
