A man has been arrested for murdering the wife of his employer after she resisted his attempt to rape her in Ambarnath in the district, police said.
The accused Manoranjan alias Rakal Siddhershwar Murkud (24) was arrested last night.
Assistant police inspector S D Jadhav of Ambarnath police said that Murkud entered the victim's house yesterday when other members of her family were away and tried to rape her.
As the victim, who was 35 years old, resisted, he stabbed her with a knife, killing her on the spot.
Murkud worked in the jeans-making unit run by the victim's husband, and stayed in the same locality, police said.
He has been remanded in police custody till April 1. Further probe is on.
