Man awarded 5 yrs RI for sending extortion note

A man has been sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment by a court for sending an extortion note to a businessman.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Hirendra Kashyap on Tuesday convicted Bake Kepo of Rouwa village in Kurung Kumey district.

He was accused of trying to extort Rs 10 lakh from Pawan Kumar Jain, a businessman of Naharlagun, after claiming to be a member of an outfit.

The judge also slapped a Rs 10,000 fine on Kepo failing which he would have to undergo simple imprisonment for another two months.

The man was arrested on December 8 last year after Naharlagun police registered an FIR and began investigation.
 

A trap was laid by the police and he was arrested.
