A man was today sentenced to one-year imprisonment by a local court in a cheque bounce case.

Judicial Magistrate Indu Bala also ordered Prithi Singh, resident of village Balsamand in Hisar district, to pay a cheque of Rs 5,37,170 to IndusInd Bank Ltd.

Singh took a loan of Rs 4.80 lakh from the bank to buy a vehicle in 2012.

However, he defaulted in paying the installments and also did not surrender his vehicle to the bank.

Later, Singh gave a cheque of Rs 5,37,170 as full and final payment of the loan in July 2014 to the bank. However, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds in Singh's bank account.

The bank then filed a case against him under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
