A man axed his wife to death

at a village here in the wee hours today, police said.

The accused Khathe Naik, a vagabond residing at Kattalathanda in Kadiri mandal, doubted his wife Bhanubai's fidelity.

Naik, in a fit of rage, pulled out an axe and killed his wife while she was sleeping and fled from the spot, circle inspector Satyababu told reporters.

A case has been registered in this regard.

A search was on to nab the accused, he said adding that they were investigating the case.
