A 48-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a girl at her house here, police said on Tuesday.
The 12-year-old girl and members of her family earlier stayed in the house of the accused on rent and had recently shifted to another locality, they said.
On Monday evening, the accused went to their house and after noticing that the girl was alone allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.
On hearing her screams, the landlord of the house and local residents went to her rescue and caught hold of the accused and handed him over to police, they said.
A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered and he was taken into custody, police added.
