A man was arrested for allegedly trying to rape and physically assaulting his step daughter here, police said today.
The 27-year-old victim's mother filed a complaint alleging that her second husband tried to rape and assault her daughter, a police spokesperson said.
The accused entered the house yesterday in an inebriated state and tried to force himself on his step daughter who is a divorcee. When she protested against his actions, he started assaulting her with a stick, following which she was rushed to hospital, he said adding, the accused was arrested today.
According to the complainant, she had married the accused, a resident of Bhagwanpur, after her first husband died in a road accident 22 years ago. She had a daughter and a son from first marriage and two daughters and one son from her second marriage.
