A person has been arrested for allegedly using "derogatory and threatening" language against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on a social media site, police said today.

The person is said to have tweeted in reaction to an incident where a video footage showed Siddaramaiah appearing to have slapped Ballari Corporation Commissioner P G Ramesh, few days ago at Ballari.

The alleged comment has now been deleted. Police said a case had been registered at Vidhana Soudha Police station.

The man was arrested yesterday.

Further investigation is going on, police said.

Rejecting media reports, Siddaramaiah had said that he had not slapped any official and some electronic media were carrying out "false" propaganda against him.

Clarifying on his part, the official had also said that the Chief Minister was angry at the security staff and not at him.
