A 28-year-old man was thrashed to death by two persons over a dispute regarding a ration card.

Vijay Bhagade had on September 19 tried to enquire about his father-in-law's ration card being allegedly taken away by a person in Gurav Pada hamlet of Palghar's Vikramgadh taluka, assistant police inspector at Vikramgadh Police Station Sunil Nandvalkar said today.

The two accused - Bhagwan Markya Gurav and Sandesh Bramhane - got annoyed on being questioned about the ration card and severely beat up Vijay, following which he collapsed.

The victim was later admitted to a hospital where he died on Wednesday.

Vijay's wife Kaushalya then lodged a complaint against the two persons who were arrested last night, Nandvalkar said.

The duo has been charged under section 302 (murder) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC, the police officer added.
