A 50-year-old man allegedly killed his son by hitting him with a hammer at his house in the district after a fight over some petty issue, police said today.

On January 10, there was a quarrel between the accused Samsul Shafiqmiya and his son Phiroz Alam Samsul Haq when Shafiqmiya demanded money from the latter, an official attached with Niphad police station said.

Prima facie, Shafiqmiya, who was running a shop here, wanted Rs 2,000 from his son as he wanted to visit his home town in Vaishali district in Bihar. When his son refused to give the money, he allegedly hit him with a hammer, he added.

Alam sustained injuries and was admitted to the Nashik civic hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday, he said.

We have launched a manhunt to trace the accused and a case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered, police said, adding investigations are underway.
