Man lynched by villagers for attempting to steal buffalo

One person was today lynched by a mob at a village in Bahraich district for allegedly attempting to steal a buffalo while one of his accomplice got killed after the truck he was fleeing in overturned, police said.

The incident occurred this afternoon in Bahraich's village Nasrapur when three persons, Raees, Nazeer and Amzad Ali were trying to steal a buffalo and were chased away by the villagers, they said.

While Raees was lynched by the villagers, Nazeer fled away with Amjad in the truck, which overturned at some distance killing Nazeer on the spot.

Amjad was later caught by the police.
 

According to officials, all the three men aged between 25-35 years.

An FIR has been lodged in this connection and police are probing the matter, they said.
