Man slits his throat in Chinnamastika temple

A 35-year-old man slashed his own throat with a knife at the gate of the famous 'Chinnamastika' temple at Rajrappa in Ramgarh district today, officials said.

Sanjay Nutt, hailing from Buxar in Bihar, came to the temple in the morning alone, offered prayers and then slashed his own throat with a knife at the gate of the temple, Deputy Commissioner Rajeshwari B said.

He died on the spot.

Police said the man brought the knife with him and it was not yet clear why he did this.

Worship in the temple was stopped after the incident and devotees had to wait for nearly four hours till it resumed, Ajay Panda, the priest said.
 

The Rajrappa temple is dedicated to headless deity of goddess Chinnamastika who holds a scimitar in one hand and her severed head in the other. The temple is referred as a 'Shakti Peeth' in ancient Hindu scriptures.
