Uttarakhand, Kerala, Nagaland, Punjab and Gujarat also started their campaign on a successful note, outplaying Haryana, Rajasthan, hosts Jammu and Kashmir, Pondicherry and Vidya Bharti teams respectively.
While Punjab demolished Pondicherry 12-0, Kerala defeated Rajasthan 7-1. The game between Gujarat and Vidhya Bharti also proved one-sided with the former defeating their rivals by six goals. Vidhya Bharti failed to score any goal.
The highlights of the match between Kerala and Rajasthan was four consecutive goals scored by Shahad of Kerala.
Uttarakhand defeated Haryana 2-1 in a close fight, while Jammu and Kashmir were defeated by Nagaland 2-0.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra declared open the tournament, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Department of Youth and Sports under the aegis of School Games Federation of India.
"Time has come for the youth of J&K to demonstrate their talents and bring laurels to the State in the various sports events at the national and international levels," Vohra said in his inaugural address.
Referring to the tournament, the Governor said football lovers would get a very good opportunity to witness these teams in action in the coming four days. More
