Maoist surrenders in Odisha district

A woman Maoist cadre today surrendered before the police in Kalahandi district, the police said.

The woman belonging to tribal community and identified as Rekha Majhi walked down to the office of the superintendent of police, Kalahandi and offered her surrender.

She hailed from Lilingpadat village under Thuamul Rampur Police station jurisdiction.

Narrating her owes before media persons here, Rekha Majhi said she joined Bansadhara-Ghumsar-Nagavali division in 2011. Majhi alleged that she was forcibly inducted and trained by Maoists.

Majhi said she was soon disillusioned after joining the cadre, but there was no way out to abandon the outfit. Unable to bear the continuous physical, mental harassment/ torture by the senior cadres, she managed to escape from Maoist camp 4 months ago and took shelter at a relative's house.
 

Subsequently she expressed desire to return to mainstream.

Majhi's surrender was sixth in Kalahandi district since March 8, 2015 and during this period five maoist cadre members were killed at the time of different combing operation, SP Kalahandi Brijesh Rai said.
