The maximum temperature today hovered slight above the normal in Punjab and Haryana with Patiala recording 39.6 degrees Celsius, the MeT department's report said.
In Punjab, Ludhiana registered 39.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, and Chandigarh recorded a high of 38 degrees Celsius.
Amritsar recorded 38.6 degrees Celsius, a notch up against the normal, the report said.

Hisar and Narnaul in Haryana recorded 41.5 degrees Celsius each, one degree above the normal. Karnal's maximum settled at 39.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees more than the normal.
The MeT has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by squall, having wind speed exceeding 45 kmph, is at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana.
