The Information and Broadcasting ministry today said that measures are being taken to increase the capacity of its Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) which presently can track content of 600 TV channels to 900.
In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for I&B Rajyavardhan Rathore said that under the 12th Plan period, government has initiated a scheme for increasing EMMC's monitoring capacity to 900 channels.
"As a consequence, the capacity of EMMC has been increased to 600 private satellite TV channels at present, while measures are being taken to further increase it to 900 TV channels," Rathore said in the reply.
He added that presently about 870 channels have been granted permission to uplink or downlink, so far.
