Medical check-up for women being sent to Ukhand shelter homes

Press Trust of India Dehradun
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today said that women would undergo check-up and get medical card issued to their name before being sent to state-run shelter homes.

The Chief Minister issued this directive expressing concern over the death of two inmates of a women shelter home, the chief minister's Media In-charge Surendra Kumar today said.

Rawat has also ordered officers concerned to check the facilities including food and lodging at the shelter homes, Kumar said.

Two inmates of a women shelter had died suddenly of "ill-health" last week in Doon hospital here and doctors said they also found that the two patients were "weak and anaemic".

After the death of the two women, five more inmates were admitted to the hospital with "similar" complaints.

On the Chief Minister's order, a three-member committee was constituted to probe the case of the two deaths and similar incidents occurring at the women shelter homes.

The women shelter home, had already been in media glare after reports of an inmate's rape and abortion last month.
