The annual general meeting of the Aligarh Muslim University Court scheduled for April 29 to elect the AMU's next Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor and Honorary Treasurer has been postponed because of the Lok Sabha polls, an official notification said.

The three posts have been lying vacant for more than two years.

According to an official release the reason for the abrupt postponement is that the university received representations from various members of the court that the meeting should be deferred because of Lok Sabha polls.

When asked why the decision was taken at the eleventh hour when the Lok Sabha poll schedule was known long back, a spokesman of the university explained that there are a number of MPS who are members of the AMU court and because of campaigning they would not be able to participate in the meeting.

The meeting of the AMU court had been postponed twice earlier on different grounds and the institution has been sans a Chancellor, Pro Chancellor and Treasurer for more than two years now.

Under the university's constitution the Chancellor and other top posts are appointed through election.
