Mercury dips in J-K, HP; normal temperature in northern plains

Minimum temperatures dipped further below the freezing point in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh today though in the northern plains the mercury hovered around normal limits.

It was a pleasant day in the national capital with the minimum and maximum temperatures settling at 10 degrees Celsius and 22.6 degrees Celsius respectively, both normal for this time of the year.

Night temperatures across Kashmir division dipped even as the day temperatures rose and settled above the normal.

Kargil was the coldest recorded place in the state with a minimum temperature of minus 15.8 degrees Celsius while Leh town in Ladakh region shivered at a low of minus 14.7 degrees Celsius.
 

Srinagar registered a minimum temperature of minus 3 degrees Celsius, while the mercury in Pahalgam settled at minus 9.2 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 9.4 degrees Celsius and in Qazigund, the gateway town of the Valley, the minimum temperature was minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.

Cold wave conditions sweeping parts of Himachal Pradesh intensified with sudden drop in night temperatures as high altitude tribal areas reeled under sub zero temperatures.

Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti, and Kinnaur districts recorded minimum temperatures of minus 12.9 degrees Celsius minus 2.6 degrees Celsius respectively.

The mercury dropped by three to four degrees in lower and mid hills with Manali, Bhuntar and Solan shivering at 1 degree Celsius, 1.5 degrees Celsius and 2 degrees Celsius respectively. The minimum temperature in Shimla was 3.7 degrees Celsius.

However, day temperatures increased marginally in lower hills and Una was hottest in the region with a high of 24.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Sundernagar 22 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 21 degrees Celsius and Shimla 15.3 degrees Celsius.

Fog and mist continued to prevail in many parts of Punjab and Haryana as minimum temperatures hovered around normal in both the states.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum of 8.7 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal. In Punjab, Amritsar shivered at 5.7 degrees Celsius while mercury settled at 9 degrees Celsius in both Ludhiana and Patiala.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded minimum temperature of 9.2 degrees Celsius, while Hisar had a low of 7.3 degrees Celsius.

People in Bihar witnessed bright and sunny day that pushed the minimum temperature up by a few notches.

The minimum temperature in Patna was recorded at 13.1 degrees Celsius while the maximum was 27 degrees Celsius.

Gaya and Bhagalpur too witnessed increase in their minimum temperature between two to four degrees Celsius since registering minimum temperature of 13.1 and 14.3 degrees Celsius respectively.

Sabour in Bhagalpur district recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 9 degrees Celsius.
