The domestic met coke industry has urged the government to raise import duty on metcoke to 20 per cent from 2.5 per cent to shield the Rs 30,000 crore domestic industry from the Chinese onslaught.
Indian Metallurgical Coke Manufacturer's Association today alleged that China had been dumping met coke from 2013, one of the most critical raw materials for production of steel.
The association said the industry was currently battling against the twin odds, first - the indiscriminate dumping by China and second - an inverted duty structure.
