Mixed response to Bandh in Jaipur

Press Trust of India Jaipur

While majority of markets remained shut, the public transport system was hit partially as many private buses and autorickshaws remained off road.

All market associations besides political parties have extended their support to the bandh and one of two 'Sangharsh Samities' of autorickshaw drivers also joined the bandh.

BJP activists took rounds in the markets to ensure the bandh is successful.

However, several shops in mini markets in colonies and in the outskirts of the city opened in the morning.

Elaborate security arrangements are in place in the walled city and other main markets to ensure the bandh is peaceful.

"Shops are closed as part of the bandh against the central government's anti-people decisions," Trilok Chand Agrawal, a representative of market associations said.

Several schools also remained closed in the city.

Police said that the bandh was peaceful and additional personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order.
