Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today emphasised on the need to introduce modern means of transportation to bring about a change in the economy of the state.
"Better connectivity will not only usher development in on fronts but also the region can be brought closer to the rest of the country," Gogoi said while inaugurating a conference on Road and Transportation Technologies for North East Region here.
Poor connectivity is one of the factors for slow economic growth in the region. Roads are very vital to rural economy, agriculture and other allied sectors and the state government is giving top priority to the transportation sector, he said.
The three-day conference is jointly organised by CSIR- Central Road Research Institute, Jorhat-based CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology and PWDs of all the eight states of the North East Region.
