Mother, daughter killed in wall collapse after heavy rains

Manjulata Das (45), her daughter Diptimoyee (16) and two other members of the family were sleeping in their thatched house last night when the wall collapsed following heavy rains in the area, police said.

While Manjulata died on the spot, Diptimoyee was retrieved from the debris in a critical condition and admitted to the district headquarters hospital where she breathed her last.

Senior officials and police today visited the spot and ex-gratia of Rs 5,000 each was sanctioned from the district Red Cross fund.
