Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today announced that his Government was going to make it mandatory to have a toilet at home for those who want to contest the local body elections in the state.

Speaking at a conference here, he said, "The rules, laws will be amended to make a provision that those who do not have toilets at home won't be eligible to contest elections to local bodies."

He also said that revival of rivers, water security and sanitation will be included in the school curriculum, so that children learn about these things at an early age.

Chouhan said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat campaign had changed the people's attitude, who now think twice before littering public places.

Rivers were crucial for the planet's ecosystem and they must be revived and 'enriched', Chouhan said, adding that 10 crore trees will be planted in the state in the coming monsoon.
