An accused in a murder case today surrendered before a local court here.

SSP Batala Diljinder Singh Dhillon said Ajaypal, resident of Kot Budha, surrendered before the court which remanded him into police custody for a day.

He said Ajaypal allegedly killed an elderly woman Joginder Kaur (70) at Sekhwan village in Batala police district on the night of October 7.

Dhillon said the accused had "illicit relations" with Rajbir Kaur, daughter-in-law of the deceased, who protested against the relation.

Harjit Singh, a resident of Sekhwan village, had lodged a complaint with the police that they were five brothers and their mother Joginder was living with his brother Gurwinder Singh who was working in Dubai for the last 6 months and Rajbir, wife of his brother Gurwinder, had developed illicit relations with two youths.

He further alleged that Ajaypal and Rajbir Singh used to visit her house but his mother Joginder opposed it and Rajbir, Ajaypal and Rajbir Singh allegedly strangulated her (Joginder) to death on October 7.
