Legendary Bengali singer Banasreee Sengupta will put the onus on music videos for the present dip in standards of Bengali light modern music.

"Instead of the performances on the podium, room or studio, we can now witness singers turning into performing artistses cavorting under trees, on river banks, on sea beaches. This impedes the natural flow of strains, this adulterates the pure soul of music. But who cares," the evergreen 'Aaj Bikeler Dake' singer told PTI.

Sengupta, who attended the 'Neel Khame" Album launch by upcoming singerPampa Roy Basu, said "easy availability of options, in terms of technology to record a song and launch in public, is in fact sapping the true spirit of music."

"As I said unlike in past these days you can record a song with full musical accompaniment with little effort and it is put in public domain without real audience scrutiny about its passing the test of time."

Previous lyrics and music could be more internalized and hence they still top the popularity charts, she said.

"If you ask me I will go for film song-based programmes on good old Doordarshan and Akashvani. There are, as I said, multiplicity of channels but has things changed for better from the vintage to the contemporary?", she wondered. The album Neel Khame (Blue Envelop) had tracks like 'smritira aaj sudhu', 'oi megh jatobar' and 'amar ei ekbar.
