NE Council, ICCR ink MoU to promote cultural heritage of NE

In a bid to promote rich cultural heritage of the people in the North East region, the North Eastern Council today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations here.

Both have overlapping mandate and their coming together and working in the fields of arts and culture is expected to increase the number of activities, besides pooling in of resources, ICCR director C Rajasekhar said.

The MoU with ICCR, which works to foster India's external cultural relations, will help boost the cultural heritage of the people in North East region, he said.

The agreement with NEC is expected to bring about a common action plan, besides identifying common priorities in the fields of arts and culture, according to NEC secretary Ram Muivah.
 

ICCR regional director Munish Singh said the Shillong centre has already undertaken a lot of activities and added ICCR has sponsored Shillong Chamber choir tour to several countries to represent the country and the region.
