Nepal and India today agreed to jointly monitor border pillars from March 11 as part of efforts to improve condition of the area.
The dilapidated pillars will be renovated and missing pillars will be re-established after the monitoring in Bara, Parsa and Chitwan districts.
The officials from the two sides held a meeting in Birgunj of Parsa and decided to monitor and manage the border pillars from March 11, Chief District Officer (CDO) Himnath Dawadi said.
The border pillars were not monitored for the last few years.
The encroached border areas will be evacuated in second phase of the monitoring process, the Parsa CDO was quoted as saying by The Himalayan Times.
Survey offices of both the countries have been assigned to begin separate studies on condition of border areas, the official said.
Survey and security officials from both the countries will be included in the monitoring team, survey officer Ramesh Gyawali said.
