Giving a fillip to the infrastructure of the MGR Government Film and Television Institute here, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today ordered purchase of high tech gadgets for a preview theatre and construction of a new hostel for students at a cost of Rs.2.90 crore.
In order to optimise the utilisation of the preview theatre by the institute students, the Chief Minister has ordered procurement gadgets, including digital Dolby sound system and a 15 KVA online UPS, at a total cost of Rs 90 lakh. The theatre has already been refurbished at a cost of Rs.99 lakh, an official release said.
She has also ordered construction of a new students' hostel complete with a canteen, dining and reception halls that could accommodate 100 learners and alloted Rs.Two crore.

"The present hostel is in disrepair and inadequate. Since the student intake will go up to 240 from this year with the introduction of animation and visual effects course, a new hostel becomes necessary. These measures will be highly helpful to the students."
The institute imparts film techniques and aesthetics of film and television production and allied subjects and film appreciation.
