A new National Education Policy (NEP) aiming to link education with industry is on the anvil, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said today.

Addressing students at a National Institute of Technology (NIT) function here, she said experts were working on the new policy and giving final touches to it.

"There is a huge gap between the educational system and the industry. As a result, the industry is not getting suitable and desirable expertise and this gap needs to be filled," Irani said.

"Cooperation and opinion of people would be welcomed in making the next general policy for the country," she added.

The minister asked students to prepare themselves for a new India which will be on the lines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision.

"The 'Make in India' initiative would change the concept of the nation. ...The NDA government has been doing a lot to end unemployment and trying its best to provide skill development-based projects for the youth," she said.

Local MP Anurag Thakur was also present at the function.
