Buoyed by a firming trend in base metals overseas, nickel prices moved up 0.84 per cent to Rs 578.90 per kg in futures trading today as speculators created fresh positions.
Rising demand at domestic spot markets from alloy-makers supported the upside.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in March rose Rs 4.80, or 0.84 per cent, to Rs 578.90 per kg in a business turnover of 896 lots.

Market analysts said a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange (LME) as improved sentiment in China bolstered base metals prices and iron ore, supported the upside in nickel futures here.
