Nickel prices moved up by 1.04 per cent to Rs 959.10 per kg in futures trade at the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) today as speculators enlarged their positions, tracking a firming overseas trend.

The exchange (MCX) opened for the evening session as it remained closed in the morning for 'Guru Nanak Jayanti'.

At the MCX, nickel for delivery in December gained Rs 9.90, or 1.04 per cent, to Rs 949.20 per kg in business turnover of 28 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in November rose by Rs 9.10, or 0.96 per cent, to Rs 952.80 per kg in 915 lots.

Market analysts said a firming trend in metal at the London Metal Exchange (LME) after a report showed employment growth in the US strengthened last month, bolstering prospects for demand for industrial metals, supported the upside in nickel prices at futures trade here.

Globally, at the LME, nickel for delivery in three months rose as much as 0.60 per cent to USD 15,415 per tonne.
